May 2015 was the decisive month in the Premier League. There were several teams in the competition for the 2nd place, including Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal. Man City did a great job in the closing rounds of the season, winning 6 straight games, while the Gunners weren’t as efficient. That is the reason why Arsenal ended on the 3rd spot of the Premier League table.
During the summer 2014, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger spent well over €100M for transfers, but it seems all of them are paying off. The biggest signing of the Gunners was Alexis Sanches, who came from Barcelona and quickly established himself as the key attacker. At the end of the season, he had 16 goals to his name, which made him the team’s best scorer.
Again, Arsenal had a lot of problems with injuries. That is why we didn’t see much action from Walcott, Wilshere and Oxlade-Chamberlain. Another Englishman, Danny Welbcek, also had fitness worries on a few occasions, but played 25 Premier League matches. Still, the €20M-worth Man United signing did not meat the expectations when it comes to scoring, having scored only 4 times.
The most influential player in the team of the Gunners in 2014/2015 season was Santi Cazorla. He was the one with the most matches played, 37, in which he managed to score 7 times. The Spanish playmaker was among key man in some of Arsenal’s most important wins, like the one against Manchester City in January, when the Gunners brought the, at the time, reigning team of the Premier League to the knees.
