Australia-Netherlands preview - World Cup 2014
After the first few games, the Netherlands has emerged as the front-runners to win World Cup 2014 along with Germany. The Dutch juggernaut is now moving in for kangaroo hunt, as it faces Australia in its second group match. Australia is the weakest team in this tough group. After their demolition of Spain in the first game, the Dutch are supposed to breeze through this match.
Australia-Netherlands Preview
Australia played better than most expected in the match against Chile, even though they lost 3-1. The final scoreline does not reflect how well Australia played. They were in the game till the fag end of the match. Only when Chile scored the winning goal did their shoulders drop.
However, the Netherlands will be a different kettle of fish. Their strikers are in red hot form after drilling five goals into Spain goal. They will be eager to register a win, as their last group fixture is against Chile, a mercurial opponent.
The Dutch team employed five defenders against Spain. Against Australia, they are likely to revert to a more traditional 4-4-2 format. This match will test Australia’s defensive tenacity. If they concede an early goal, the flood gates will be open.
Players
Australia will have to face the Dutch attack without their key defender Ivan Franjic, who was injured in the game against Chile. Once again, Tim Cahill will carry the attacking mantle of the Socceroos.
The Netherlands will be confident that Arjen Robben and the new flying Dutchman Robin Van Persie will settle the issue with another emphatic performance.
Australia-Netherlands Prediction
Whoever has seen the thrashing meted out to Spain will not bet against the Dutch.
