This is a direct fight for the second position in the Bundesliga. With Bayern Munich establishing a 23-point lead at the top, the best the rest can fight for is the second position. Dortmund and Schalke 04 are the prime candidates for the position. The Tuesday’s match between these teams could well decide the eventual runners-up of the Bundesliga.

Dortmund are second, while Schalke are third. Only one point separates the teams. Schalke appear to have the momentum, having won seven of the last 10 games in the Bundesliga. They have lost a single match in that 10-match streak. They will not forget that match easily: a 5-1 drubbing at the hands of Bayern.

Dortmund’s last 10 games produced six wins. But they lost three matches. They have appeared a bit inconsistent in recent times. They will be all geared up offer their best in this game, as they cannot afford to lose this home match.

The H2H statistics too predict a battle between two equal foes: four wins each in their last 10 meetings. Dortmund does have the home advantage. They have a better attack too, at least on paper.

Shalke’s defending is at times terrible. Robert Lewandowski and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Dortmund’s ace strikers, will try to exploit that. Henrik Mkhitaryan and Marco Reus are happy providers.
