Brazil-Netherlands preview - World Cup 2014
Losers’ finals are often pointless exercises where two recently damned teams reluctantly fighting against each other. Still, these matches do offer a final chance of partial redemption for one of the teams. The Dutch coach Louis van Gaal has slammed the idea of third-place play-off (a gloried term for loser’s final) on the eve of the match. But it would be his Brazilian counterpart and his wards who are dreading another football match at this time.
Brazil-Netherlands Preview
Brazil played so unlike them against Germany in what could go down as the biggest defeat in the soccer history. It is difficult for any team to get up from the mess of a 7-1 semi final defeat and move on to play another match. But Brazil will have to do just that and face the reality. A good thing for them is that there is nothing to lose. They are in such a position that even a 2-1 defeat will be felt in the country like some kind of consolation.
The Netherlands, on the other hand, was plainly unlucky to miss out on a penalty shoot-out against Argentina. They only lost the match; they managed to keep the pride intact. They can bow out the world cup stage in style if they can manage to beat an already demoralised Brazilian side.
These teams have met four times in world cup, with each teams winning twice.
Players
It would be interesting to see which of the players will start. van Gaal may offer starting roles for Memphis Depay and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. Brazil should welcome back their skipper Thiago Silva. The team might field a new-look attack for this match.
Brazil-Netherlands Prediction
The Dutch are poised to add further agony to the already suffering Brazilians. The world would love an immediate Brazilian resurgence; but that is likely to be a distant dream.
