France-Honduras preview - World Cup 2014
France must be fully confident of winning their first World Cup 2014 match, against Honduras, except for the slight worry about their occasional habit of losing against minnows. France is miles ahead of Honduras in terms of form and pedigree. Still, France – of all teams – will be keenly aware of the perils of taking underdogs lightly. Their experience is in the previous two world cups would have taught them at least as much.
France-Honduras Preview
France struggled to qualify for the world cup, but once inside they found themselves in an easy group. Switzerland and Ecuador are the other teams in the league. France comes into this match on the wings of a five-match winning streak. Two more wins are all that needed to qualify to the knock-out stage. They are without some key players: Franck Ribéry is out with injury and Samir Nasri, strangely, was not selected. Still, the squad has enough depth to steamroll past opponents like Honduras and Ecuador.
Even though Honduras played in three world cups, they have yet to score their first win. It will be a famous victory if they can register one against France. Senegal is still remembered for their victory over France in the 2002 World Cup.
Players
France has no injury concerns – well, apart that of Ribéry. Olivier Giroud, Blaise Matuidi and Karim Benzema will feature in the frontline. Paul Pogba and Yohan Cabaye will offer dynamic presence in the midfield, and the defence will be well-led by Mamadou Sakho.
Honduras does not have a strong central forward. Roger Espinoza and Emilio Izaguirre will be their key players.
France-Honduras Prediction
This is an easy one. France should surge ahead with a thumping win. A draw is the best even the die-hard Honduras fans will be hoping for.
