Germany-Argentina preview - World Cup 2014 Final
The big final is upon us. After a month of riveting football, often delightful and occasionally shocking, we are into the climax of the long winding voyage into the football’s summit. Two teams are left standing, beating every foe that come in their way and evading everything that hurled at them: Argentina and Germany.
They are familiar rivals at the world cup stage, having met twice before in the finals. Argentina won in the 1986 final, and Germany returned the favour four years later.
Germany-Argentina Preview
More than those distant finals, the match between these two teams in the last world cup will offer more realistic clues into the possible result of this match. Germany thrashed Argentina 4-0, with Thomas Muller scoring twice and Miroslav Klose scoring once. Those two players will once again harass the Argentine defence. The match will be decided on how well the Argentina’s defenders cope with Germany’s attacking juggernaut.
If their defenders succeed, they can trust Lionel Messi to create enough chances to take them to victory. After all, history and geography are on their side. No European team has won a world cup that was held in the American continents.
What Germany will seek inspiration from is their recent form. If they can beat Brazil 7-1, there is no reason why they cannot get past Argentina.
Germany-Argentina Players
Apart from Klose and Muller, Germany has a string of match winners – Bastian Schweinsteiger, Toni Kroos, André Schürrle and, lest you forget, Mesut Özil. Any of them can produce game changing moments.
Argentina but has the one man who can balance out the weights of all these mentioned. Messi has been emulating Maradona in this world cup. He has scored crucial goals and provided killer passes. What he needs is support from his fellow attackers. One man who could be of great value though is injured: Ángel Di María. There are speculations that he might play.
Germany-Argentina Prediction
These are the two best football teams in the planet at the moment. If Germany takes an early lead, it will be game over for Argentina. On the other hand, if Argentina can keep Germany goalless for the first hour or so, the history of Latin American teams winning the world cup in their continent is likely to remain intact. But our vote is with Germany, they deserve to win this world cup with the football they played since the begining of the tournament.
