Japan-Colombia preview - World Cup 2014
Colombia, already assured of a berth in the round of 16, can take the game against Japan a bit easy. Japan too will hope that they do, as only a win can give the Samurai Blues any hopes of reaching the next round. If Ivory Coast wins against Greece, even a win will not be enough.
Japan-Colombia Preview
The big question is whether Japan can tame a probably depleted Colombian side. The evidence from their last two matches is hardly encouraging. While the Colombia appeared galloping towards the second round, Japan appeared stuttering around.
Both the teams play a fast-paced game. Colombia is especially lightning quick on counter attacks. The Japanese defence is likely to struggle against the immensely talented Colombian attackers. This will be yet another opportunity for the young guns in the Colombian attack to show their prowess.
Players
Juan Guillermo Cuadrado and James Rodriguez will once again lead Colombia’s charge. These two have already made people forget Radamel Falcao. If their coach Jose Pekerman decides to rest them, Japan will still have to bear with two other terrific forwards: Jackson Martinez and Carlos Bacca.
Japan, on the other hand, will rely on their veteran stalwarts Shinji Kagawa and Keisuke Honda.
Japan-Colombia Prediction
Japan will battle their heart out for a slot in the next round. Still, if Colombia plays at their usual level, even the best of Japan may not suffice. Colombia is clear favourites. But lack of motivation for the Colombians might help the Japanese to create a surprise.
