Liverpool-Chelsea betting preview

Liverpool-Chelsea betting preview

There have been far too many title-deciding matches in this season’s English Premier League. This Sunday’s clash between league leaders Liverpool and the second-placed Chelsea could be the last of the breed. Liverpool can almost confirm the crown by beating Chelsea tomorrow at Anfield. Chelsea only has an outside chance of winning the crown, even if they manage to beat Liverpool. However, a Chelsea win will boost the chances of the third contender, Manchester City.

Even without the backdrop of the title race, this match is an interesting one. This is kind of an irresistible-force-meeting-immovable-object match. Liverpool has scored the most number of goals, while Chelsea has conceded the least.

A number of external factors are going to influence the outcome of the match. No, we are not talking about the strange superstitions of the Liverpool fans. But it is about Chelsea’s upcoming Champions League semi final match against Atletico Madrid at Stanford Bridge on next Wednesday. Jose Mourinho has declared that he would rest, preferably, all top players against Liverpool.

Chelsea has considerable bench strength. They have sufficient stars in their ranks; even their second-string eleven will have more expensive stars than an ordinary EPL team.

Liverpool is looking for their 12th straight win. The team has not lost a match in 2014. They can afford to play out a draw against Chelsea, as they need just seven points from the three remaining matches. But the Merseysiders play an attacking brand of football that produces plenty of goals and, oftentimes, a decisive result.

Daniel Sturridge is likely to make his comeback into the Liverpool squad after a one-match injury-forced absence. Jordan Henderson will sit out because of suspension. All the other first eleven regulars, including Luis Suárez and Raheem Sterling, are fit.

Chelsea is likely to field an unfamiliar eleven. Eden Hazard, Ramires, Petr Cech and John Terry will miss out. But they can still field Frank Lampard, Demba Ba, Andre Schürrle and Mohamed Salah.

Liverpool-Chelsea Prediction

All usual indicators point to an advantage for Liverpool. Still, nerves of a long overdue title win might get to them. Over 2.5 goals betting looks like best selection for this match.
