Liverpool-Sunderland betting preview
Liverpool are overwhelmingly the strong favourite to win this match. The team has not lost an Premier League match in 2014, having won nine and drawn two matches. They appear brashly confident and in prolific form. Their tally of 24 goals in the last six games should send chills down the spines of the opposition defenders.
Amidst all these glittering achievements, you still can see some defensive fragilities in the team if you look close enough. Sunderland must look close enough, for they are battling for survival in the league.
A win will take Liverpool within one-point distance of league leaders Chelsea. The Merseysiders have reached a stage where they will have to win almost every match to win the crown that has eluded them for more than a couple of decades. A win in this match is a must so much so that it has already been taken for granted.
But Liverpool have shown a tendency to bumble against supposedly weaker teams. They win big against Arsenal, Spurs and ManU, but struggle to win against the likes of Swansea, Fulham, Aston Villa and West Brom. Even the last Saturday’s game against Cardiff was closer than the eventual 6-3 scoreline would suggest.
Sunderland will look forward to exploit this tendency of their opponents. They are third last on the points table. Unless they start winning matches or at least drawing some, they are unlikely to feature in the EPL in the next season.
The H2H history does not back them though. The team has not won at Anfield in the last three decades.
Liverpool’s usual suspects, Luis Suárez, Daniel Sturridge and Steven Gerrard, are likely to script another goal-fest. Sunderland’s strikers, Adam Johnson and former Liverpool man Fabio Borini in particular, will try to exploit the wide spaces that Liverpool’s defenders tend to provide.
