Manchester United-Manchester City betting preview
The Manchester Derby has become the biggest of inter-city clashes in the EPL in recent times. Its latest instalment beckons, uncharacteristically as a mid-week tie on this Tuesday at Old Trafford. This time Manchester United find themselves as the underdogs. It might sound odd; but they are the ones who have nothing to lose.
Manchester City are prime title contenders. The team is third – six points behind leaders Chelsea. But they have played three games fewer. A loss in this match will reduce their match-in-hand advantage considerably.
There is a damning piece of statistics against Manchester United. They have won only one match in this season against the current top five clubs in the league – against Arsenal at Old Trafford in November 2013. They lost twice against Liverpool, the last week’s loss at home will hurt them forever. They lost against Chelsea and Spurs. They lost at the Etihad Stadium against Manchester City too. No wonder they find themselves at the seventh position, with seemingly no chances of gaining anything valuable in the season.
City have lost against Chelsea in February. But the team has regained its form, with three consecutive wins in the last three outings. There is only one drawn game between these teams in the last 10 games. City has won five of these matches, while United managed to win four.
City will miss Sergio Agüero due to injury. He has had a good record against the city rivals. But David Silva, Fernandinho, Álvaro Negredo and Yaya Touré all will play. United’s attacking stalwarts, Robin Van Persie will miss the clash due to injury. But it is their defenders’ performance against City’s elite strikers that is going to determine the outcome of the match.
