Last couple of years saw heavy turbulence in Manchester United. First, the era of Ferguson ended, then a poor season with David Moyes in charge happened, and finally in the 2014/2015 season, Man United got back in the shape, under the lead of Louis van Gaal. The Red Devils finished on the 4th spot, which is a great success, but it seems they could have done even better.
Manchester United was the biggest spender in 2014/2015 of all the Premier League clubs. They spent nearly € 190M on the transfers of Angel di Maria, Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw, and Ander Herrera. On top of that, Manchester United made a loan deal with Monaco and brought Falcao to the team for a season-long spell.
Manchester United ended the season with 17 points less than the Premier League champion, Chelsea. The Red Devils stood no chance for winning the title, but could have ended at least on the 3rd spot, if not as the runner-up. Arsenal and Manchester City finished the season with 5 and 9 points more than Man Utd, respectively.
Man United captain, Wayne Rooney was their key man this season. He was their top scorer as well, with 12 goals to his name. Rooney was crucial in Manchester United wins over their rivals Arsenal and Liverpool. When it comes to producing assists, the team’s leader was an ex-Real Madrid player, Angel di Maria. The Argentinean came in the summer of 2014 as the most expensive transfer in the history of the Premier League and proved he’s worth every penny.
