Title chase in the French Ligue 1 is heating up as the first three teams are separated by only four points. The second on the table, Monaco travels, this Friday to Montpellier in a quest for another three points.

This season, Montpellier are struggling to get away from the relegation zone. They are only one place above the danger part of the table with just three points more than Valenciennes. Their home form is relatively ok, but what’s troubling is their play away from their stadium. They are winless away from home, but on the Stade de la Mosson, Montpellier have 2 wins and 5 draws so far. However, that fact shouldn’t worry their opponents too much, because the home squad are terrible recently. Montpellier are without a win since the beginning of October and have only two points from the last five home games in the Ligue One.

Monaco are trailing PSG by three points, because of the loss to Valenciennes at home in their last game in 2013. However, even with a win in that game, Monaco would be again on the second place, because of a much worse goal difference that the one of the PSG. That means that in order to keep it up with the Parisians, Monaco need victories, and not just any kind, but very convincing victories.

Montpellier-Monaco Prediction

Monaco ended the 2013th with a defeat in Ligue One and I’m sure they won’t start the year in the same manner. I expect lots of goals on the away side.
