Sunderland’s midweek performance against Liverpool should have surprised even their own supporters. Somehow, the relegation-bound team managed to rattle Liverpool towards the end of the match. Even though they lost that match, they would see it as a good omen. If they can build on that performance and beat West Ham on Monday, it could probably open a path out of relegation.

Meanwhile, West Ham United too came back to winning ways in the mid-week fixture against Hull City. Sunderland will have to bring out their best performance so far to get something out of this match.

For all the fighting spirit they showed against Liverpool, Sunderland has managed just two goals in their last five games. Easily, they are the worst performing side in the EPL in March.

The Hammers do not have a good March either. They suffered three defeats in March; but that was after four straight wins in February. Furthermore, two of those defeats came against Everton and Manchester United.
