Time of First Team Goal Betting
This is a relatively new betting market that requires a punter to predict the period within which a particular side will score its first goal. Basically, you are choosing whether the home or away team will score its first goal in the first half or second half of the match, or not score at all. You can choose to place your wager on your favorite team, selecting the half of the match when it will score. Alternatively, you can select a team to not score any goals within 90 minutes of the regular time.
The options available in this market, with odds for an Everton vs. Newcastle match are as follows:
• The home team (Everton) scores its first goal (of the match) in the first half – odds of 4/7;
• The home team scores its first goal in the second half – odds of 21/10;
• The home team does not score – odds of 5/1;
• The away team (Newcastle) scores its first goal in the first half – odds of 7/4;
• The away team scores its first goal in the second half – odds of 23/10, and
• The away team does not score – odds of 5/4
Time of First Team Goal Betting Market Example
Online bookmakers only consider goals scored within the official 90 minutes of play, including own goals, which are counted in favour of the side that is accredited with the score.
The rules applied for abandoned matches vary depending on the goals scored. For instance, if the match is abandoned after both teams have scored their first goals, then the bets are considered to be valid.
Suggested Betting Sites
In the case where the match is abandoned after one of the teams has already scored, then the bookie can choose to settle all bets placed on that team, depending on which half of the game the goal was scored.
Depending on the half in which the match was abandoned, the bookie can choose to make the bets for the scoreless side to be void. A scoreless match that is abandoned in the second half means that all bets placed on a team to score in the first half have already lost, but it cannot be determined whether they would have scored in the second half, or gone for 90 minutes without scoring. As such, bets on the first goal occurring in the second half, or the match ending in a draw can be considered to be void.
