What is a Trixie bet?
A Trixie bet is essentially one type of ‘full cover bet’. Full covers feature multiple bets over a number of selections. These are placed instead of traditional win-only accumulators to ensure that, even after a loss, the bet can stay alive for longer.
The Trixie is basically a bet consisting of 3 selections. From these 3 selections, you will be placing 4 separate bets; 3 doubles and 1 treble. Punters must remember that this will therefore cost four times the unit stake, i.e. a £10 Trixie (4 bets) will cost a total of £40.
As long as at least 2 of the selections win there will be a payout so, in its own way, a Trixie is like having a form of betting insurance. You may want to back 3 horses, though you may be slightly under confident about one of them. Putting these picks into a Trixie means that if they all win, you are paid out for a winning treble AND the three doubles, however if one loses and the other two still win then you will be paid out on that double.
If you are betting on horses and your selections are a bigger price, say 4/1 or more, then an each-way Trixie could be the way to go. This way, even if the horses are just placed you can still be paid out. As usual, each-way terms will be determined by the conditions of the race (see below).

How To Place A Trixie Bet
Once you have three selections in mind put them into your bet coupon as usual. From there, click on any multiple bet button and select Trixie. Enter your unit stake and the coupon will automatically be calculated, i.e. entering a unit stake of £5 will become a £20 bet.
How Will My Trixie Pay Out?
Let’s say you have backed three horses, priced at 2/1, 3/1 and 4/1. You have placed a £5 Trixie, costing £20. If all three of your selections win, your returns will be:
Win double on horses A & B at 2/1 & 3/1 = £45.00
Win double on horses A & C at 2/1 & 4/1 = £60.00
Win double on horses B & C at 3/1 & 4/1 = £80.00
Win treble on horses A, B & C at 2/1, 3/1 & 4/1 = £180.00
TOTAL RETURNS = £365.00
Should ‘horse C’ lose and the other two win, your returns will be:
Win double on horses A & B at 2/1 & 3/1 = £45.00
In this case, there is always a profit on offer should at least 2 horses win, however this depends on the odds of your selections.
What Is An Each-Way Trixie?
An each-way Trixie works just the same as above, though it will cost 8 times the unit stake rather than 4 as we are effectively betting on both a win and a place for each horse involved. If a horse should win, you will receive your returns for both the win and place sections of your bet. If the horse is only placed, you will receive only that part of your returns. Places are generally:
4 runners or less = must win
5 – 7 runners = first 2
8 runners or more = first 3
16 runners or more in handicaps only = first 4
