World Cup 2014 - Group F Preview
The biggest sporting event is in one month’s time so here’s a preview of Group F, featuring Argentina, Bosnia, Iran and Nigeria. Argentina will be one of the favourites to go far in the tournament while Bosnia will be playing in their first ever World Cup. The Nigerians will be aiming to progress to the round of 16 while Iran - managed by Carlos Queiroz - will hope to do the same.
Stars to look out for
It’s without question that the main man for Argentina will be Barcelona’s Lionel Messi. Having failed to lead Argentina to the promise land in the last World Cup, without even scoring a single goal, Messi will be looking to put things right, especially after a trophyless domestic season to forget. He’ll have a host of stars to help him too in Ezequiel Lavezzi, Angel di Maria, Gonzalo Higuain, Sergio Aguero and more.
For Bosnia, they will be looking to Manchester City striker, Edin Dzeko for inspiration as well as the likes of Senad Lulić and Asmir Begovic while the key man for Iran is certainly Fulham’s Ashkan Dejagah. The Nigerians have a couple of stars with experience who could be dangerous in Brazil too - John Obi Mikel, Vincent Enyeama, Victor Moses, Emmanuel Emenike and more could help the African nation progress to the round of 16.
Who could go through?
You would bet your mortgage that Argentina will finish the group as winners as their odds of 1.17 clearly show - they should have no problem whatsoever when it comes to sweeping the floor with the rest of Group F, as it would be a surprise if they finished with less than nine points.
As for qualifying from the group, despite this being their first international tournament, Bosnia could join Argentina in the round of 16 with odds of 1.83 @ Bet365.com. Nigeria’s odds of 2.37 @ Bet365.com show that they also stand a chance of doing the same and a win over Bosnia would all but assure them progress. Despite being coached by Sir Alex Ferguson’s ex-assistant at Manchester United, Queiroz, it looks like the Iranians will have to make do with bottom spot in the group as they have the least chances of qualifying with odds of 6.00 @ Bet365.com.
World Cup winners?
Out of Group F, Argentina are the only team likely to be winners of the World Cup. In fact, they are only behind Brazil when it comes to betting odds of winning the whole tournament outright with odds of 5.50 @ Bet365.com, notably better than the likes of reigning World champions, Spain and Germany. It’s more than likely that La Albiceleste will reach the last four but their talisman, Messi will have to be on his A-game if they are to truly become champions.
